We missed Papa!!!!!

Matt was gone all week to gunsmithing school in Oklahoma, about 60 miles south of Moore. Thankfully, the storms only brought him a power outage for 36 hours. Brenner, Nola, and I did okay without Papa, but we sure did miss him. Matt tells really good bedtime stores...me not so much. But we had a full week of Minnie Mouse, Hello Kitty, and Mordu (bear from the movie Brave) stories per their request!
Brenner so so glad to see Papa. He wanted to stay up Saturday night but he had too busy of a day to make it.
Papa getting a big hug from his "Cheeky sweets".
I never notice how blue our eyes were until I looked at this picture. And we share the same cheek bones from the Hilbrenners I think!
The terrible twos are in full swing with Nola. Her temperament changes by the second. Here is an example. Nola thinking "you want me to do what?"
"Sure I can smile - cheese!"
And a bonus silly face to boot.
She isn't the only comedian. Brenner thought it would be hilarious to put on Nola's new jammy pants...they are a bit short.
Paging Dr. Nola! Nola operating on her baby....not sure of the infliction but the remedy looks a bit painful. Notice the toilet paper wrapped around the baby.
Food can be a challenge. Brenner does great, Nola would prefer to just drink milk. Anyway, here is one of our dinners from this week. Bacon (a big hit with both of them, mommy not so much), grilled asparagus (Brenner took some bites; Nola just laughed when I encouraged her to try it), pinenut pilaf (yum-mo!), and kiwi (Brenner gobbled up as usual, Nola continued to laugh). Ah - a fun age!

Preschool graduation and picnic

What a busy week wrapping up school for Brenner and Matt! We had preschool graduation on Monday night - a big thank you to Grandma Val and Aunt Lynnie for coming down! On Thursday Brenner went to school with Matt - special treat as Brenner usually likes talking with the female students - oh dear! Friday, Grandma Val, Nola, and I went to Brenner's end of the year picnic - gorgeous weather and great fun - with a little bittersweetness thrown in too! Friday was also Matt's last day of teaching. He will be earning his gunsmithing certification over the next year or so. A real passion of his so I am very proud that he has taken this step!
Brenner's class providing us with some entertainment. Brenner's favorite was the Cowboy Shuffle although I was partial to A-tootie ta. Very funny to watch!
Brenner with his teacher Ms. Gerhardt and aid Mrs. Jones. These ladies are phenomenal. I hope they are still there when Nola goes to preschool! They are holding cards that Brenner made them. Inside was a gift card of his choosing.....Pizza Hut....not glamorous but it was appreciated by the teachers!
So, so proud of this guy - even with the fake smile!!!!
Ah - there he is with his normal antics :)
Brenner and his friend Noah sitting next to the infamous Emma (you might recall this is his girlfriend!).
Brenner climbing the way - although he got scared right at the top. I told him I saw Emma climb all the way...that was enough motivation for him!
Nola stole some one's bubbles, but did a good job entertaining herself!
Brenner and Ms. Gerhardt. While giving him a hug, Glenda said "Come here. my little friend. We have come a long way together." She teared up and told us, some kids are harder to say goodbye to and he is one of them. We will miss her too!
The Parker's boy last day of school!
 Think someone is part diva?
Nola showing off her new swimsuit! They both have gotten soooo tall!
Another turtle was found in the yard! Brenner was so excited!

"Happy Mudder's Day, Mama!"

Just a few reflections on my thoughts while looking through the pictures this week and thinking about the blog. My husband wrote me card that in part said "You are the key component of this family. You are the one that holds us up and keeps us going! Your love and devotion is a massive foundation upon which we all rest." Wow - I don't know if I do that but I sure want to try. I had some special ladies to help show me how to be a mom - thanks to them - those here and watching down on me. So here are some pictures with my thoughts regarding motherhood.

Grandparent Trike Day, Rainy Day Adventures, and Quirks

Apologies for not posting last week. Matt was gone until Sunday night (at Shoofest) and then the week simply escaped from me! Brenner had grandparent trike day at school - he had so much fun. Nola was in tow as well - never far away from her big brother! Nola is in the terrible twos....I think they are really worse than Brenner's age - as you can reason with him! Nola won't let Matt do anything for her if I am around saying "No, mommy do it. I don't like you Papa." Poor papa. Brenner has been hoot - he is really a smarty pants. While waiting for Papa on Sunday, Brenner was begging to go outside. I told him not by himself. His response "Let me go outside. I know what to do with strangers. I know how this world is." Made me smile but also think I sure hope you don't know yet! Matt and I also met with our financial planner this week. Attention parents with small kids - you may not want to read this. We got projections for 4-year college education - $161,574 for Brenner and $217,387 for Nola to go to a Mizzou-type university. Now free time at home will reading and math for the kids!!!!!! No one said having children would be inexpensive- but they are totally worth every penny.
Brenner's preschool teacher Ms. Gerhardt. She is so awesome! Can't wait until next year when Nola has her!
Egg and spoon race. Notice how Brenner is cheating by holding the egg to the spoon rather than balancing!
Blindfold race - Brenner had to listen to Grandma Val's instructions to get through an obstacle course. Way to go Grandma for taking pictures while helping Brenner!
Our three time gold medal winner. Such a great smile (silly camera won't rotate).  Brenner got mad at me the other day and said "I just get frustrated some times!" I said "I know, but Jesus didn't yell and he wouldn't want us to either." Brenner paused and said "Jesus got mad at the tax collectors at the temple." Hmmm....why yes he did but Jesus still prefers for us not to get mad!
Brenner with Aiden and Noah. All three will be at the same school next year - wonder if they will be in the same class?
Nola being silly and doing a little dance.
Rain, rain, and more rain. We got stir crazy so headed outside!
Nola loves the dirt - and loves to pick it up and put it in her pockets! I was with the kids in Wal-Mart checkout when this lady starts talking to Nola "Hey, there is my girl! How are you sweetie!". I didn't recognize the lady and must have had a strange look on my face. The lady quickly said "I work at the diner - and she comes in with her grandma all the time. She loves biscuits and gravy!". This cracked me up because several weeks ago one of my friends told me she ran into Grandma and Nola at the same diner. Apparently they frequent that fine establishment.
 Batman battling the mud puddles!
The sun made some appearances too. Grandma took the kids to the park on day. Looks like fun!
Love his smile! Isn't Brenner getting tall!?
 An interesting meal was created......
But they seemed to like the caramel chocolate cake I made better. Note - that the mixer is unplugged!
Nola loves the yolks of hard boiled eggs!
Oh - not only did we have rainy days - we woke up one morning to snow!!!!! And this past Friday, Grandma had 4 inches at her house!
Nola lounging with her stuffed animals - panda bear and cougar cub are her favorites right now.
Brenner playing his leapster while being watched by a crocodile and snake on the table.
While making dinner, Brenner came asking for a bottle to feed the baby. I said we didn't have bottles but there was the tippy cup that Papa used as a boy. Next thing you know, Brenner said "I am going to milk Nola." Well - this made Matt a little uncomfortable but they were quickly on to the next part of playing parents.
 Nola feeding the baby.
Brenner and Nola celebrating the baby's first birthday. They got it all set up and asked me to take a picture. Note the table cloths and plastic brownie for baby.  Baby looks like she has been left out in the sun a little too long!
