A slower pace, time to breathe

After the vast festivities of last week, it was nice to have a week to recuperate and have a few calm nights! The weather was warm a few days so we had a lot of time outside. The kids were go, go, go all week with Brenner saying he had some "bad, bad, bad days at school". His teacher never mentioned it so my guess is that he was being a wee bit dramatic. He did crack me up Tuesday when we went into town to vote. I went into vote first while Matt waited in the car with the kids. As I was coming back out Brenner asked "Did you see Obama in there?" I laughed and then explained we vote on paper for all sorts of leaders - he seemed a little disappointed!
Some of our maple trees are gorgeous in the sunset!
 Papa and his little girl.
I walked outside to see this game going on....some sort of golf ball grabber (originally from Grandpa Bob) with the kids (all three) chasing around like mad. I am pretty sure there weren't any rules!
 Silliness after Nola's bath.
Saturday we headed to the Katy Tail with some friends. Luckily there was a picnic lunch followed by a playground to run off a TON of energy.
 Nola calling "All aboard!!!!!!"
Mommy wasn't feeling good one day this week. Nola proceeded to get down from the table to get Brenner's drill. She then told me "I fix you, mommy!"
Okay - this really made me laugh. Brenner made this paper of what he was thankful for at school. Included were cheesecake, grilled cheese, tacos, beef, and a random lady (which represented "mommy"). True he loves me but rarely eats any of the other items!
Another week of homework. Brenner drew some really good whales and cut our the fish to glue into the fishbowl! Way to go, buddy!
This made me think of my friend Amy who does yoga. I found the doll this way!

Our big guy is 5!

What a BUSY week - our wedding anniversary, school fall party, Halloween, and Brenner's birthday party. The kids did well and had some funny comments along the way. At Grandma Val's house, the kids were taking a shower when Grandma Val heard Brenner yell "Grandma, Grandma come quick. Grandma - EMERGENCY!!!!!" Grandma went in and saw Nola had pooped in the shower - definitely an emergency from Brenner's perspective. Nola was also funny during bath time at our house. I told her "time for bath - I will get a washcloth." I picked up an orange one to which she stood looking at me and said "I want pink." Wow - her and pink (and her assertiveness).
We has a very fun time at Brenner's birthday party! We had lots of friends and family over for Bull Durham nachos and cake! Thanks to all that came - the Hincks, Bynums, Vogans, Parkers, Scultzs, and Thomas - a very special day indeed! Just wish we would have gotten a picture of Brenner with Aunt Lynnie - they are, after all, birthday buddies!
Brenner, Casper, Sadie, and Nola. Casper and Sadie used to be our neighbors but moved away earlier this year. Lucky for us, they were able to squeeze in Brenner's party during a weekend home to visit family. Brenner and Casper had a good time playing superheros. Brenner will randomly say "I miss Casper." It was a very nice surprise for Brenner!
Brenner with his "bug cake" - three tiered yellow cake with butter cream frosting covered in dirt (crushed oreo cookies), worms (gummy worms), caterpillars (green skittles), ants (brown peanut M&Ms), and an anthill. I pilfered his Halloween candy in attempt to not buy any additional candy...Brenner was quite upset over the skittles, but I think from his smile in the picture he was okay with it in the end!
Brenner asked for a worm first!
Grammy having an audience while eating her cake!
Nola rolled up her sleeves on Grandma Val's lap to eat her cake! It was lip smacking good!
Brenner really loved his hunting vest from Grammy Vo and PawPaw Floyd. He is going deer hunting with Papa in a few weeks.
There is a lot going on in this picture. Casepr (lower left) was trying to play with the Spiderman toy that he had brought for Brenner while Sadie (lower right) was busy unwrapping another gift. Nola wanted to get her Dora coloring book from Aunt Lynnie out of the bag while Mommy and Brenner were in a showdown. Aunt Janet got Brenner a nerf-type gun. Mommy doesn't like these toys but Brenner was very pleased. He proclaimed that it was his favorite gift of the day.
Last was the gift from Mommy and Papa. The black on my shoulder is new snowpants....Brenner threw them out of the bag, landing on me, with a "thanks mom" as he continued to dig. They made quite the impression :) I did hear Brenner tell Aunt Lynnie "I didn't get many toys, but I sure had a good time!" Yeah!!!
The weather was great so we had to take a hayride. Nola loves hanging out with Remi - thanks, Remi!
Brenner and Aiden at the preschool fall party!
The kids went to the local nursing home to sing some songs. As you can tell, they really got into it!
Halloween night included many superheros and one special kitty cat! Wolverine (Xander), Ironman (Brenner), Captain America (Mason), Kitty (Nola), and Red Power Ranger (Cooper) were very excited about trick or treating.....
...loading up for the hayride. Xander and Nola get along very well :)
Matt driving the tractor around the neighborhood - it was a great time. We did have drama - Ironman dropped his mask and Matt ran over it with the trailer - ouch!
Brenner with his new 3-D lite board from Aunta-ta Theresa and Uncle Chuck!
Homework....Nola thought she needed to do hers too. Don't look too close - the purple on their mouths is yogurt!

Some of Brenner's homework - he LOVES mazes.
