Weekend getaway

We had a super busy weekend going to Cousin Krystee's allstar softball game in St. Louis. We are so proud of Krystee and her team! The trip was a lot of fun but Brenner definitely was out of his routine. Softball games, hotel rooms, a trip to the zoo and a 3 hour car ride (one way) made for some interesting patient tests for mommy and papa! Overall, Brenner did really well and had a lot of fun.
Brenner and mommy in the pool. He loved it but didn't want to be too far from mommy or papa. He really liked "jumping" into the pool into Matt's waiting arms. He is doing this new thing - when he gets dressed - swimming trunks or whatever - he will look at you and say "handsome" - it is too sweet.
Aunt Lynnie, Krystee, and me - the team ended up being number 2 in state but Krystee did great. She stole multiple bases, made some awesome slides, and had a great line drive down the third base line to bring in another run in the last inning.
Brenner seems to be saying "man I can't believe that call!". He spent about 6 hours at the ball field and did well - he was the team mascot according to the coach.
We went to the zoo with the Grandma Val, Aunt Lynnie, Uncle Chris, Krystee, and Colten. The boys are watching the chimpanzees in this picture - they were all so intent. We didn't make it very far into the park because we entered meltdown mode (all of us not just Brenner) by early afternoon. But he liked the penguins, bears, tigers, apes, and butterfly house.
Brenner, Krystee, and Jo in the amphibian house. Brenner refuses to get into a stroller - so we did a lot of carrying because he can't seem to hold your hand when walking. I totally get why there are those kid leashes but I still can't quite do it. Anyway - Brenner loved the train ride. Even tonight as I was putting him bed we were singing a song about the zoo (to the tune of Mary had a little lamb) and I thought BHP was sleeping. He looked up and said "train fun" so then we sang about the train. How funny. I guess I didn't realize he listened to the words during this night time routine.

Glory days

We have been having such fabulous weather that it is unbelievable - sunny 70s and breezy in July! We'll take it! We had a great weekend when Jo's college roommate visited with her daughters. Lots of pattering feet, sweet treats, and chattering. The girls put up with Brenner so well - he is still talking about "Trana" (Hannah) and Rookie (Brooke)!
Brenner knows our after dinner routine - taking veggie/fruit scraps to the "post" (compost). We set this up a few weeks ago to help reduce our trash and make some great soil for future use.
Brenner loves his new Elmo farm book with musical buttons. It has a little animated screen that shows images. Matt's favorite is the cow - the picture shows a fly around the cows tail. Brenner loves the banjo - he stands up and dances. He is so into song. He will say "Jesus" for Jesus loves me and "Lamb" for Mary had a little lamb.
Brenner, Matt, and Hannah taking a 4-wheeler ride.
What a bunch - Emi got lots of lovin' this weekend. Brooke was especially attached to Emi - even cried when she had to leave - too sweet.

It's broke, fix it

Oh the quirks of a 20 month old. Brenner's latest is "fixing" everything. I first found this out by tearing a piece of bread in half and giving it to him. A tantrum followed - "no, no, no - it's broke, fix it!!!!". Cute at first now just frustrating especially when he is eating a cracker or pretzel. We have tried to tell him that now he has more pieces - how wonderful. Or some things just can't be fixed. Brenner's routine has changed this summer as Matt has been home from school. Now - Papa has to put him to bed and mommy gets told "Bye-bye" with a wave. It is so sad :( He continues to build his vocabulary daily and really surprises us with the people's names he remembers. His memory is great too - his favorite book is "Seuss" There's a wocket in my pocket. He knows all the rhymes and shouts them out when you read it - so cute.
This is what we like to call the calm before the storm! So peaceful. I think our neighbor nailed it - he has 2 speeds - 90 mph and konked out!
Bond, James Bond. BHP loved the water guns we got him. Mostly he drenched himself and watered plants.
We sneaked over to our neighbors to splash the girls - we were on the losing end - I got soaked. So we decided to put Brenner in his life jacket (thanks Grammy Vo) and let him have his first dip in a big pool. He had a blast!
I had a basket of clothes that needed folding - Brenner found a use for it. I asked him what he was doing. His response was "laxin" (relaxing). Now if I could just get him to fold the clothes. He was counting his fingers while laxin'.
We had such a busy weekend. Krystee babysat on Saturday night (kudos to her - her all-star softball team is heading to state - yeah!) and on Sunday Jack came over to play. The boys were suppose to play in the pool - but it rained all day - well until Jack got ready to leave when the sun came out - go figure!

It's Independence Day

We celebrated the fourth of July (and a late Father's Day present) at a Royals game with my family. It wasn't too hot - we had a great time. Brenner was telling us we were going to "run bases" in the "city". Too cute. He didn't watch too much of the game but loved the water fountains and the kids area. And the Royals WON!
You could tell someone was one goofy boy! As you can tell - Matt is smiling big - he made it through a week of agony with his nose/sinus surgery. Overall - he is doing very well.
Maw (Grandma Val), Key-Key (Krystee), BHP, CoCo Bean (Colten), and Ink-le (PawPaw Roger) at the K. It was PawPaw's first game! Colten and Grandma also celebrated birthdays this week - Happy Birthday!!!!
Watching baseball if tough work! Brenner konked out on Papa's shoulder early on.
PawPaw carried BHP back to the car. He told Brenner to hold onto his ears - so Brenner did.
The tired kids - Brenner and Emi on the way home.
Brenner got a new stick horse which he LOVES! Especially when Colten plays on it too! His name is Henry and mommy is on the look out for it to scratch the floor.....
So I dressed Brenner for church this morning and thought he looked really cute. Matt walks up the stairs - looks at BHP and says "hey there little yodeler"! Well, I still think he looked cute!
